MediaLive Diagnostics

Diagnose live channel issues using the AWS MediaLive console and CloudWatch logs.

MediaLive Diagnostics

When using a Standard live channel, Nomad Media uses AWS MediaLive for the broadcast. If you encounter issues with a live channel, the AWS Console provides detailed diagnostic information.

Step 1 — Check Nomad Media First

Log into Nomad Media and open the channel that is having issues. Check whether the output appears in the preview window. If the window shows that the video is unavailable, proceed with the steps below.

Step 2 — Check AWS MediaLive Alerts

  1. Log into the AWS Console and select the AWS Region where Nomad Media is deployed.
  2. Navigate to MediaLive > Channels and select the channel.
  3. Open the Alerts tab. Any active alerts must be resolved for the channel to output correctly.
    • A common alert is that audio or video could not be found — this indicates the RTMP or MediaConnect source is not transmitting as expected.

Step 3 — Check the Health Tab

If there are no active alerts, open the Health tab. Verify:

  • Network In (Mbps): Should show an active signal (input is arriving).
  • Network Out (Mbps): Should show an active signal (output is being sent).

Both values must be non-zero for the broadcast to be working correctly.

Step 4 — Review CloudWatch Logs

CloudWatch logs can be reviewed during or after a broadcast.

  1. Log into the AWS Console and select the correct region.
  2. Navigate to CloudWatch > Log Groups and select the ElementalMediaLive group.
  3. Review the logs for channel start/stop events and input transitions.
